This Privacy Policy (herein referred to as “Policy”) explains how Pacific Forward Initiative (herein
referred to as the “Company,” “we,” “us, " or “our”) processes Personal Data that we collect from you (herein referred to as the “Subscriber”) as a Controller.
1. DEFINITIONS.
(a) “Controller” means the natural or legal person, public authority, agency, or other body, which
alone or jointly with others, determines the purposes and means of processing Personal Data.
(b) “Personal Data” means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person
(“data subject”). An identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in
particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an
online identifier, or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental,
economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person.
(c) “Service(s)” means Pacific Forward Initiative Limited ("PFI," "we," "us, " or "our") is a Hawaii nonprofit corporation recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt under Section
501(c)(3). We provide the following educational, research, and community services (collectively, the
"Services"): Website. Our public website at pacforward.org and related web properties, including
educational content, program pages, application forms, event registration, and donation processing.
Educational programs. Free and low-cost educational o erings on AI and technology literacy,
including the AI for Real People course series (self-paced online courses covering Getting Started,
Paperwork, Inbox, Job Search, and Di cult Conversations), reference materials, field guides, and
companion resources made available to the public. Live classes and workshops. Free virtual and in-
person classes, workshops, and educational sessions primarily serving Hawaii residents. Pacific
Voyagers Fellowship. A milestone-based sponsored AI-literacy program in which selected
participants receive access to a paid premium AI subscription seat provisioned by PFI, structured
access to PFI's course series, mentor sessions, surveys and program evaluation, and formal
recognition upon completion. Research and publications. Independent research on AI, technology,
workforce readiness, and economic-resilience topics, disseminated through reports, blog posts,
presentations, and other publications. Community engagement and outreach. Partnerships,
community events, and civic activities supporting PFI's charitable and educational mission.
Communications. Email updates, program information, event notifications, newsletters, and
educational content sent to individuals who provide their contact information or opt in to receive
communications from PFI. Donations and fundraising. Processing of charitable contributions to PFI,
including one-time and recurring gifts, through our website and other lawful means. Not all Services
described above may be active at all times. This Privacy Policy applies to all Services o ered by PFI
regardless of the channel or medium through which they are delivered..
(i) “Subscriber” means the natural or legal person who has subscribed to the Service(s) byagreeing to the Terms.
(ii) “Terms” means the binding contract between the Company and Subscriber that governs
the Subscriber's access and use of the Service(s).
2. DATA COLLECTION.
The Subscriber directly provides the Company with most of the data we collect. The Company
collects Personal Data from the Subscriber from the following sources:
We collect Personal Data about you from the following sources: Directly from you. Most Personal
Data comes from what you provide to us, including when you: Complete a form on pacforward.org
(contact form, program interest form, event registration, or donation form) Apply to participate in
the Pacific Voyagers Fellowship or another PFI program Register for a class, workshop, or event
Complete a baseline, mid-program, exit, or follow-up survey as a Pacific Voyagers participant Sign an
agreement, consent, or release Sign up for our email communications Correspond with us by email,
phone, mail, or in person Participate in a 1:1 mentor session, group session, or interview Submit a
testimonial, quote, photograph, video, or other content for possible use by PFI Make a charitable
contribution Automatically when you use our Services. When you visit pacforward.org or interact
with our digital Services, we (and our service providers) may automatically collect certain technical
information, including your device type, browser type and version, operating system, IP address
(which may indicate general geographic location), pages viewed, referring URLs, and dates and times
of access. From participation in the Pacific Voyagers Fellowship. Selected Fellowship participants
use a premium AI subscription seat provisioned and administered by PFI. PFI has administrative
visibility into certain usage metadata associated with that seat, as described in the Pacific Voyagers
Fellowship Agreement and the accompanying Data & Survey Consent. From third-party sources.
Occasionally we may receive Personal Data from third parties, including individuals who refer you to
us, publicly available sources, event partners, funders (in the context of grants that identify
individuals), and service providers who help us operate the Services.
3. PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA.
(a) The Company processes the Subscriber’s Personal Data to We collect and use Personal Data for
the following purposes: To provide the Services described above, including delivering educational
content, administering the Pacific Voyagers Fellowship, hosting classes and events, and responding
to your inquiries. To communicate with you about programs you have expressed interest in, events
you have registered for, changes to our Services, and, where you have opted in, our newsletter and
other outreach communications. To process and acknowledge charitable contributions, including
issuing donation receipts and complying with donor-recognition preferences. To evaluate and
improve our programs, including through baseline, mid-program, exit, and follow-up surveys of
Pacific Voyagers participants; program-outcome analysis; and iteration on educational materials. To
report to funders and to comply with our reporting obligations, generally in aggregated and de-
identified form. Where specific funders require identified reporting (for example, grant conditionsthat require named participant lists), we will disclose that requirement in the relevant program's
consent document before collecting the data. To publish research and educational materials.
Research findings and publications derived from program data are prepared in aggregated and de-
identified form unless a participant has separately opted in (for example, through the Testimonial &
Media Release). To comply with applicable legal obligations, including the reporting and
recordkeeping requirements applicable to a Section 501(c)(3) public charity, IRS Form 990 series
filings, Hawaii Department of Taxation filings, Hawaii Attorney General charitable-solicitation
reporting, and responses to lawful subpoenas or court orders. To operate and protect our Services,
including detecting and preventing fraud, misuse, and violations of our Acceptable Use policies;
investigating incidents; and maintaining the security and integrity of our systems. To operate the
Pacific Voyagers Fellowship administrative functions, including provisioning seats, troubleshooting
access, investigating suspected violations of the Fellowship Agreement, and generating aggregated
program analytics — in each case, only as further described in the Pacific Voyagers Fellowship
Agreement and Data & Survey Consent. We do not use Personal Data for purposes materially
di erent from those disclosed above without first obtaining your consent..
(b) The Company will generally collect Personal Data from Subscribers only where it needs to create
a contract with the Subscriber, where the processing is in the Company’s legitimate interests and
not overridden by the Subscriber’s data protection interests or fundamental rights and freedoms, or
where the Company has the Subscriber’s consent. In some cases, the Company may also have a
legal obligation to collect Personal Data from the Subscriber.
(c) If the Company processes Personal Data with the Subscriber’s consent, the Subscriber may
withdraw their consent at any time.
4. SHARING OF PERSONAL DATA.
(a) The Subscriber acknowledges that the Company may share the Subscriber’s Personal Data with
its group companies and third-party service providers to o er the Subscriber the Company’s
Service(s) and/or send information or updates about the Service(s).
(b) When the Company processes the Subscriber’s order, it may send the Subscriber’s Personal Data
and use the resulting information from credit reference agencies to prevent fraudulent purchases.
(c) The Company shares Personal Data in the following instances We do not sell your Personal Data.
We share Personal Data only in the following limited circumstances: With service providers who
help us operate the Services. We share Personal Data with third-party vendors that provide services
to PFI under contract, including website hosting, form and survey tools, email and communications
platforms, event-registration platforms, electronic-signature tools, payment and donation
processors, cloud storage, and (for Pacific Voyagers participants) the AI-service vendor whose
subscription seat PFI provisions. These service providers are permitted to use the Personal Data only
to provide services to PFI and are contractually obligated to protect the information consistent with
this Privacy Policy. With funders and grantors, generally in aggregated and de-identified form for
reporting on program outcomes. Where a funder or grant condition requires identified participant
reporting, we disclose that requirement in the relevant program's consent document beforecollecting the underlying data. With government agencies and regulators, as required to comply with
our obligations as a Section 501(c)(3) public charity — including IRS Form 990 series filings, Hawaii
Department of Taxation filings, Hawaii Attorney General charitable-solicitation filings, and any other
reporting required by law. With professional advisors, including our attorneys, accountants, auditors,
insurers, and other professional advisors on a confidential basis, as reasonably necessary to receive
their services. With your consent, or at your direction. For example, if you sign a Testimonial & Media
Release, we may publish your name, likeness, quotes, or other content in accordance with that
release. Testimonial releases are opt-in and revocable as described in the release itself. In
connection with legal process. We may share Personal Data in response to a subpoena, court order,
warrant, or other lawful process, or when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to comply
with legal obligations, protect the rights or safety of PFI or others, or prevent fraud, abuse, or illegal
activity. In connection with a merger, consolidation, dissolution, or transfer of PFI's assets or
operations. In the event PFI is involved in a merger, consolidation, or dissolution, or if all or
substantially all of PFI's assets or program operations are transferred to another Section 501(c)(3)
organization (as required by PFI's Articles of Incorporation), Personal Data may be transferred to the
successor organization subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy. In aggregated or de-identified
form. We may publish or share aggregated or de-identified data (data that cannot reasonably
identify a specific individual) for any lawful purpose, including research, program evaluation, funder
reporting, marketing, and public education.
5. RETENTION OF PERSONAL DATA.
(a) Company retains the Personal Data when an ongoing legitimate business requires retention of
such Personal Data.
(b) In the absence of a need to retain Personal Data, the Company will either delete or aggregate it. If
this is not possible, the Company will securely store your Personal Data and isolate it from any
further processing until it is deleted.
6. SECURITY OF PERSONAL DATA.
The Company uses appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect the Personal Data
it collects and processes. These measures are designed to provide a high level of security
appropriate to the risk of processing the Subscriber’s Personal Data. If you are a Subscriber and have
any concerns about the security of your Personal Data, please contact us immediately.
7. MODIFICATION.
The Company keeps this Policy under regular review and may update this webpage at any time. This
Policy may be amended at any time, and the Subscriber shall be notified only if there are material
changes to this Policy.
